How do I claim rent for a married couple. Do I put it under one person or split it between two people
You put it under only one person. It cannot be split. It does not matter which spouse claims the amount as both of their incomes are considered in calculating the benefit (It is called the Ontario Trillium Benefit.) Flip a coin. Once you decide which one of you will claim the benefit, enter the amount of rent you paid when you get to the Provincial area of their return. The other spouse will not enter any rent.
