I am filing for myself and my children, ages in 2014 : 18, 20, 22 ( for part of the year)
do they each need to register for an account and file separately?

No. You can log into one account, finish yours and then tools in the top menu bar, click return manager and then choose new return. You can do everybody on one account. Each return will likely have to be paid for separately unless it is a low income return.
