Childcare expenses must be claimed by the lower-income earner. So if your wife earns less than you do, she will have to take the deduction on her return. This is important because other credits and expenses (like medical expenses and charitable donations) can be claimed by either spouse. So, if your spouse is the lower earner, consider taking all of the other credits on your return.
