Why do I have to write here information about my ex if we are separated and I do not have any contact with him?

If your marital status changed (from married or common-law to separated or divorced) during the tax year, you’re required to enter some information about your former spouse to complete your return and assess your eligibility for certain credits.

Depending on the details of the change (date of change, type of change, etc.) the information may not have any effect on your bottom-line, but it is required to complete your return.
