My husband died in march 2017. When I try to enter his info it asks for marital staus at the end of 2017 !!

My condolences on the passing of your husband.

You will not be able to prepare both returns together. If you carried forward the Coupled return, you will need to start over with a new one for yourself and for him. 

His marital status is his status the day he passed away. "Married"

Your marital status is "Widow" on Dec 31.
