Separated or married?

if two people consider themselves separate, but they are still living together because its financially smart for the short term are they still considered to be considered separated in the eyes of CRA?

If you were previously married (or living common law), and you have not updated your marital status with the CRA, then they would still require you to report that you are married on your taxes. If you want to be considered as “Separated” you would need to contact them and let them know: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/news/newsroom/tax-tips/tax-filing-season-media-kit/tfsmk31.h...
