Why can I not complete two separate tax returns for a married couple? They have always done it separately

There are three steps to chose to file separately while married. The very first step is to answer Myself at the very beginning of the interview. On the next screen choose Married. The option to choose I want to prepare my return separately from my spouse/partner is then presented as seen in the images below. If you answer differently the question is no longer available for editing. To change it, you need to start a new return.
