Why does my turbo tax 2018 not update? This seems to be an error in the application. Please advise with a fix, and not a work-around. Thanks

When I installed the application, the updates worked OK. Now they don't.

I get "Turbo Tax is unable to determine if an update is available."

error code TT8805

Please try uninstalling & reinstalling TurboTax using the download available from our website. https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/3001486

I followed the action indicated to download an update, close turbo tax and run the downloaded file. when Turbo Tax starts it has the same error - TT8805

If I uninstall & reinstall Turbotax 2019 will I lose all the work I've done so far?  This is the message I got and I assume my work so far (3 different returns) won't be affected:

 

In the meantime, this will not affect your ability to fill out forms or to complete your return (as the software is still functional), but will prevent you from FILING your taxes prior to the above mentioned date.
