You can include public transit rides as a business-related travel expense, but remember to include only rides that you took to earn business income - no personal use. So if you bought a bus pass for $100, but used it 50% for personal use, you would only claim $50 as a business expense.
To claim your transit passes as a business expense in TurboTax Online 2017:
Click on “Income”, then select “Self-Employment”. This will bring you to the “Let's look at your self-employment income and expenses” page. Click on the “Continue” button.
This will bring you to the “Your Self-Employment or Business Summary” page. Click on the “Edit” button next to the business that you want to claim the expense for. This will bring you to the “[Name], review your self-employment income and expenses” page.
Click on “Business Expenses” to go to the “[Name], let's look at your work expenses” page. Now click on the “Continue” button until you reach the “[Name], did you pay for work or business-related travel?” page. There you can put in the total of all your business-related travel expenses. Click on the “Continue” button to save your information.
