2024 Tax Year Line 22100 now requires form T691?

I'm unable to save a PDF of my return because I have entered my investment management fees into Line 22100 (where I entered them for 2023 tax year).  I keep getting an error that because I have entered an amount on Line 22100, I have to enter something onto specific lines contained in Part 1 of form T691.

When I look at form T691, nothing on that form applies to the management fees I'm entering.  How can I get past this?

Since I have self-employed income, should I just enter that amount as management fees in T2125 business income?  Anybody have any ideas or seen this situation before?

Not sure what to do here as it won't let me save as PDF, print or file at this point.

The CRA has announced systems tax calculator errors that may affect your ability to file. These errors are affecting all CRA certified tax software across Canada.

TurboTax is in direct contact with senior Government of Canada officials at CRA, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and decisive action to resolve these issues for our customers and all Canadians.

If you fall into a certain category of investment income earners, which in turn allows you to claim certain related deductions and tax credits, you may have to calculate the alternative minimum tax on Form T691 in your tax return. If your total related income is $40,000 or more, you may have to pay minimum tax.

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT): How It Works and What You Need to Know

All the locked forms will be unlocked and ready by the 20th of March, 2025, and you will be able to print/save/Netfile. We appreciate your patience.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I'll have to see how everything behaves after final forms are available.  I've read through the link supplied and that situation does not apply to me.  Thanks for the information!

Were you successful at filing your tax return?

I've not filed yet as I'm still waiting for some stuff that has a deadline of March 31 for them to send.  I was able to save a copy of my returns so I'm confident that filing will be no problem.  Thanks!

What windows version of Turbotax corrects the T691 problem? I just uninstalled and reinstalled the windows Premier version today without any success. I still receive the same errors relating to T691. Thanks for your assistance.

Not sure ... my problem went away after the last update around March 20.  Then I realized I had entered a couple of slips twice.  So, not sure if my T691 issue was my error or the program.

@Jhodge1958 The update we released should resolve the issue. If you are still having issues , we suggest you contact our product support team by phone.

I am having the exact same problem.  My software is up to date, but none of the recent updates have fixed my issue.  I am doing exactly the same as I did in 2023, and none of the AMT criteria apply to me.  Seems like there is still a bug in TT2024.

Ugh, yes, I spoke too soon.  I am able to save a copy of my return, however, even though I do not have income over $40k, I'm still flagged for the T691 citing line numbers for items that do not apply to me.  I have management fees for investments that I've claimed on line 22100 in previous years, however, this year it says I am missing an entry on line 67820 or 67840 - neither of which apply to my situation.

If I do not complete this form, will I be flagged for an audit?  Are management fees no longer allowed even though line 22100 shows one of the items is management fees?  This is very concerning and frustrating.  As best as I can see, the requirements for the AMT as described at CRA, TurboTax Help and everywhere else I can fine, don't apply to my situation.  It may be easier just to not enter the management fees as it only results in a reduction of $30.00.

Good grief!  I'll take my chances with CRA - cannot get past the stupid automated robot when calling TurboTax because I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO A ROBOT OR HAVE ANY OF MY RESPONSES RECORDED BY A ROBOT!!!!!  If there are actually people there to help, I'll call but I won't talk to a robot who claims to have information to help me based on me saying "I'm calling at the suggestion of a community comment" and then asks for my cell or email - what a load of crap!

I'll do what seems to be the best and carry on.  This effort is not worth $30 especially when the rules for T691 do not apply and the program continually flags "errors" for it.  Having read through the article at CRA about Line 41700 (Minimum Tax - https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/deductions-credits-expenses/[product key removed]um-tax.html), it appears that the threshold is $173K.  Besides that, what does one do if the programs states that line 22100 looks for an amount entered into another one of two lines which do not apply to our situation?

I ended up clicking "ignore" on the warning (oops), so I'm going to create a new return without entering my $ on line 22100 to see if the warning still shows.

This whole thing is really frustrating for 2024.

Okay, I created another return without the management fees.

If I do not add my management fees on line 22100, I am presented with a "tax-saving opportunity" that reads:  "Don't forget to deduct any interest expenses or carrying charges that you may have incurred, such as investment counsel fees."

When I add them in, then the warning about line 22100 missing entries from T691 shows up again.  None of those items on T691 apply to my situation so... I have to decide:

Add the management fees and hope CRA does not flag it OR do I just leave them off completely?

I am in exactly the same situation. If I leave the investment management expenses out the error message goes away.

None of the items in T691 apply to my situation. I have done two calculations based on formula found on Intuit's site and on the CRA site and I am way below the threshold for any of this being applicable.

This has to be a bug of some kind. Is there any workaround other than clicking on ignore?

The system also seems to think I have non capital losses in the current year which is also not true. Where are they lurking?

Some direction or a fix would be appreciated.

Definitely a bug in Turbotax.   I tried a clean return and as soon as you put anything in line 22100  the AMT gets triggered and the warning message comes up.

Seriously?  If anyone reads the previous comments it should be clear that we have researched this issue.  My comments were posted AFTER I already read everything I could find on the issue.

That said, I could not find ANYTHING that makes my situation applicable for AMT.

Coming at this from a different angle, is the issue that not all maintenance or management fees allowed to be included?  Perhaps by the name I'm entering from my slip TurboTax assumes it is something that requires a line 67820 or 67840 entry?  I cannot fathom why these two lines MUST be completed when an entry exists on line 22100 if neither situation applies to an individual.

This is making me second guess how accurate TurboTax is in the rest of the program.  What is it not doing correctly that I'm not even aware of?

Seriously?  There is an issue here that everyone is having.  It’s an issue with the SW or CRA.  At a minimum Turbotax needs to acknowledge the issue and provide a point of view or a workaround.

@dlms55 As we cannot have a look in screenshare to your return, and see all the details, we invite you to contact or phone support team that will be able to have a look at all this and, if needed, escalate it.

Here is the link with their business hours and phone number.

We are attempting to resolve this error in collaboration with CRA. We hope to have this resolved by or on April 14th, and our development team is working on it. For our customers' awareness, we have placed a banner in the TurboTax filing section. Thank you for your patience.
