Common Law Seperation

My common law partner and I separated Jan. 5, 2018. I moved in with my parents and she stayed in the apartment with our daughter. She got a new job over an hour away and moved there in August 2018. I have no drivers license, so in Nov. 2018, I got a job there and she let me have a room in her new home until I could get my own place and see my daughter. It did not work out and I am back with my parents.

First question: what does our marital status become? Single or separated?

Second question: do we have to file together since I was only there temporarily and we are not a couple?

If you were common-law and separated more than 90 days you are considered single. You can both do your returns separately. Because you were together in 2018, you will be asked each others Net Income.
