Disability expenses vs Medical Expenses.

TurboTax gave me a warning on claiming disability care amounts for my mother in Medical Expenses. It states I should remove these as expenses and instead enter them in the "Medical Expenses worksheet in the Disability support expenses not claimed elsewhere on any return (max. $10,000)..." Please tell me where I can find this in TurboTax...did several searches with no luck. Thanks

Disability expenses vs Medical Expenses.

You have entered the amounts in a non-qualifying deduction;

If you have an impairment in physical or mental functions, you may be able to deduct the expenses that you paid in the year so that you could:

  • work
  • go to school
  • do research for which you received a grant

Only the person with the disability can claim expenses for this deduction.

Remove the amounts and claim them under the "Deductions" tab > "Medical Expenses Profile" and report them as expense of a dependant.
