Do I need to declare universal childcare benefit backpay from 2016 that I received in 2017?

My child was born in the fall of 2016 and I did not receive universal childcare benefits until the spring of 2017. Will I need to include this money in my 2016? I assume not because it was a part of our 2017 income but it was backpay from 2016 so I thought it beneficial to check. Thanks!

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us. You are correct in assuming that the UCCB amount received in 2017 is part of 2017 income. So you do not have to declare it in your 2016 return. However you will have to report the same in your next year's return. Thank you.
