I'm divorced with 4 kids. A CRA specialist said I should claim one of the children for a spouse deduction. Can this be done? Do I lose the child care expense for child?

If you are a single parent you are entitled to make a claim for one of your dependant children under the age of 18 who lives with you. This is called the Eligible Dependant Amount (formerly Equivalent to Spouse). Claiming this amount makes no difference to your Canada Child Benefits or GST/HST Tax Credits.
