If critical care is through a 3rd party company at work, can it be claimed as a medical expense?

Payment for critical care comes off my pay cheque however the insurance is via a third party company.  Can this be claimed as a medical expense.

Premiums paid for private health insurance are considered as an allowable medical expense. However if your insurance is a disability plan then it would not qualify.
