Northern Residents Trips - No difference

Living in the prescribed zone in Manitoba, we're allowed 2 trips out per person in our household.  Yet when I enter the amounts in Turbo Tax, it doesn't affect my refund at all.  Is there a glitch? Why have a deduction if it doesn't make a difference?

The Northern Residents Deduction is a deduction from income, not a tax credit. That means it reduces the amount of your income that is taxable. So, if your taxable income is already very low, then the deduction may not make a big difference to your return.
