Property Taxes for Primary Residence

Hi

How can one claim property taxes for a primary residence (not a rental property)? I have not been able to find where can this significant tax expense be accounted for in our tax returns. Is it a provincial or federal credit or deductible expense? We reside in Alberta. I hope there is allowance for this expense otherwise we essentially are paying taxes for property taxes already paid if this expense is not deducted from the gross income. Please advise.

On the federal level, you can only deduct your home’s property tax if you used it (or part of it) to earn income, such as renting out a room or working from a home office.

On the provincial side, while some provinces do have some kind of property tax credit, unfortunately, Alberta does not.
