It is asking for line 23600 of my spouses 2021 return. Do they mean from 2020 return? I couldn't possibly know that yet as I am just beginning 2021 return.

No, it is asking for 2021 information. If you are filing your return separately from your spouse, you will need to include their Line 23600 - Net income because the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) needs it to determine your eligibility for certain credits, such as the Spousal Amount.

You can put in an estimate of your spouse’s net income (line 23600) for now, and then before you file, you can go back and put in the correct income amount. You can put in the estimate based on their income from the previous tax year, or any slips that they have received from this tax year.
