What does "Federal non-refundable credits (T1, sum of lines 30300 to 31400)" mean? Does it include line 78, 79?

As our TurboTax article, non-refundable tax credits reduce the amount of tax you pay on your taxable income. You will not get money back from a non-refundable tax credit, but you can use it to offset how much you will pay.

As per CRA, box 79 should be included in the subtotal from line 30000 to 30500.

However, you should check which tax credit you are qualified for to enter in your tax return.

For example,

  • The Amount for an Eligible Dependant Credit on line 30400 is designed for single adults who are not claiming the Spouse/common-law partner Credit on line 30300. Therefore, you only can enter an amount to either line 30300 or 30400.

In addition, some Schedules should be completed before entering the amount.
