Why after I claimed a donation didnt my return increase

Donations are a non-refundable tax credit.  Non-refundable tax credits are great to help reduce your tax liability, but if your tax liability is zero, any extra non-refundable credits will not affect your return.  It is possible that your tax liability was already zero before you included your donation.
