Why are old medical expenses that I've claimed in previous years automatically showing up on my 2017 tax return? Did I maximize the amount I could claim in those years?

You imported your tax return from last year and it carried forward some medical expenses. 

Go under your Deductions tab - Medical Expense Profile and you will see the carry forward from 2016.
