NETFILE error code 57

If you received this error when you tried to submit your tax return using NETFILE, it means that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) couldn't recognize the city you specified in your mailing address.

Tip: If your mailing address is the same as last year, you can confirm the address CRA has on record by accessing CRA My Account.

Complete the steps below to ensure that the city is spelled correctly in the mailing address section:

  1. From the upper-right area of TurboTax, select Find (the magnifying glass icon).
  2. On the Find dialog box, in the search bar, type "mailing address" (without the quotation marks).
  3. In the search result, depending on whether you're using TurboTax online or CD/download edition, do one of the following:
    • TurboTax online: Select Mailing Address and Home Phone, and then select Go.
    • TurboTax CD/download: Select Mailing address, and then select Go.
  4. In the City field, check the spelling and make any necessary corrections.
  5. From the upper-right area of TurboTax, select Find (the magnifying glass icon).
  6. On the Find dialog box, in the search bar, type "netfile" (without the quotation marks).
  7. In the search result, do one of the following:
    • TurboTax online: Select NETFILE your tax returns, and then select Go.
    • TurboTax CD/download: Select NETFILE or Print, and then select Go.
  8. To resubmit your tax return to CRA, continue with the process by completing the instructions in TurboTax.

Note: NETFILE errors are returned from the CRA when they process your submission; TurboTax does not generate NETFILE errors. If the steps above do not get rid of the error, contact the CRA.
