Filing for the first time

I am filing for the first time, and I went to file my taxes, but it said the CRA could not accept it, and there was no error code. Do I need a CRA account in order to file taxes? Am I able to create a CRA account even though I have never filed taxes before?

No, you don't need a CRA Account to use NEFILE and you can't sign up for one until after you have gotten your first Notice of Assessment.

Make sure to check your personal information, like your name & address. Make sure the information matches what the CRA has for you. If you are not sure what they have on file for you, you can and confirm it with them.

If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281. If you are elsewhere, you can call 613-940-8495. This page has more ways to contact the CRA: Contact the Canada Revenue Agency
