Can someone please clarify the "you" or "I" verbiage used on Turbo Tax? Its my first time filing a joint return and I am confused.
For example, this sentence explaining "Foreign Financial Assets"
" If you are living in the U.S. and are married filing a joint return, you should file Form 8938 if the total value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $100,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $150,000 at any time during the tax year."
Is "you" here specifically myself, or does it mean "you or your spouse"? My name isn't on her foreign accounts and she isn't a US citizen.
And then, follow up question is "you" represents both of us - how do I answer "are you a US citizen" as that question doesn't make sense anymore, since I am and she is not.
