Why does turbotax tell me to review my 2018 return, which I have done, but will still not file it.

I keep getting this prompt: "Unfortunately at this time, this is as far as you can go...We've made changes to our tax forms to incorporate the latest tax rules from the CRA. Before you continue, you need to go back to the review section to make sure your return is up-to-date with the changes."

I comply but it will still not complete the filing.

If you do not have income that is considered to be "split" under the new tax rules, the easiest way to fix the issue is in the Setting Up section of your return.

  • On the bottom of the screen titled Your name what happened for you in 2018?, answer No to the question did you, your spouse/partner, or dependent receive split income? (This does not apply to pension income splitting).
  • Click Continue to save your answer. You can now proceed back to the Review section and continue.

Please note that CRA's NETFILE service is closed for annual maintenance until February 18.
