Why wont the software let me claim completely separately. It makes me put my spouses income which screws over what I could have gotten back

I am sorry to hear that you are having this difficulty. If you are married, even if you prepare your returns separately, you are still required by the CRA to include details of your spouse as that information affects your tax return.
