I lived in China for all of 2017 as an English teacher. My company paid taxes on my income and I have proof. Do I still need to file a tax return?

I returned to Canada in January to live here permanently. I was previously in China working for 15 months.

First, you need to determine your residency status. If you are considered a non-resident for tax year 2017, you might not need to file a tax return. But there are some exceptions. Consult the below content (with special attention to the "Do I have to file a return" section) and if you are unsure, reach out to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
