Credits and deductions

Yes, you can claim the donations you have made, the Charitable Donations Tax Credit (CDTC) is only available for donations made to a qualifying donee. Therefore, you can only claim donations you've made to the Salvation Army as they are a qualifying donee but not Value Village. A donation can be defined as a gift for which no consideration is given in return. Your donation can be money, or it can be anything else of value such as property, cultural, and ecological gifts. Make sure you obtain a receipt and that the donee issuing it is legally entitled to do so.

The CDTC can be up to 33 percent of the amount you donated, use the CRA link here to fill out Schedule 9 - Donations and Gifts (for all) and to calculate how much credit you can claim for your donations.
