What to do if I filed an amended return that has less refund than the original but I haven't cashed in the cheque for the original yet?

I filed a tax return without declaring my T2202 so I got a huge refund from the working tax income. I received the notice of assessment and the cheque for it but I did not cash it in. I then sent the amendment request for which my refund is a lot lower than it original was, and am waiting for the CRA to reply back. Should I hold off on cashing in the cheque? I'm not sure how this works

After you file

CRA will send you a Notice of Reassessment and a bill for the adjusted amount. You are unable to send the cheque back to them, and they will expect you to pay your adjusted amount within 30 days of issuing the new assessment. What you could do is cash the cheque and set that money aside to pay them when you receive your new NOA.
