On my return the northern residents additional deduction is listed under deductions. I did not claim that. How do I get rid of it?

After you file

Click on the "Deductions" Tab

select 'Moving profile" then "moving summary" (this lets you skip some pages)

Continue until you see the "Northern Residents Deduction" screen. Tell Turbo tax that you qualify and remove any information that pops up in the next screens.

I am not entitled to a northern residents deduction. but it shows as a deduction. How do I get rid of it?

You will click on "Find"  top right and then type in "Northern Residence Deduction" You will then continue and delete all the amounts put in that section- the next 3 pages. Then you will click on Continue, you will then go back to the "Deduction" section and you will click on "SKIP" when it asks if you'd like to claim the Northern Residence Deduction.

As per CRA  Who can claim Northern Residence Deduction

This does not work.  In all my years of using TurboTax this is the second most frustrating year trying to fix something I happened to notice when doing the review.  Do I need to upgrade to make this work?  or  delete and start the joint filing over???

I have tried this "fix" -- and the other "fixes" recommended.  None of them work.  I called the help line, and the product specialist was unable to fix it.  There is no apparent way to reverse this.  (I don't recall selecting it, to begin with.)

This is a software coding problem that's "begging" for a fix.  HELP!!!

I got the same thing, my wife too.

We both get US Social Security.

The amount show as Northern Residents deduction matches exactly the 15% of Social Security which is not taxable.

Go figure! I hope Turbo reads this.

Same here.  It's exactly 15% of my US Social Security.     But that line  also  means /add other deductions like the 15% can be put there also.   Line 25700 on the T1  is for Other Deductions  which this Turbo line is.   Upon checking my pdf copy of the T1 return it shows that the 15% Soc Deduction is placed in the correct line (25700) on it.   The problem is that Turb labelling shows "Northern Residence/add ded" but doesn't state what the other deductions are that fit in there, like the Soc Sec 15%.   The Soc Sec 15% is put there by the program automatically and the typical user is unaware that it was done.  Turbo can fix it by redoing the labelling of it in some way.

This doesn't work for me.

I do not live in the north, I have never lived in the north, I never told turbotax that I did, and I cannot remove this 112K tax credit that's been put in erroneously.

I'm very frustrated.

It did this to me with education credit in another year. I never said I was a student, and yet it wouldn't let me get rid of the credit for full time students.
