How can I get the program to open when it just makes an icon in the icon tray and won't open?

I am using Windows 8.  When I try to open the program it just makes an icon in the icon tray at the bottom of the page.  When I click on it, it just makes a tiny window but won't open.  I installed the program from a CD. I don't want to loose all my work.  Please help.

Thank you for your prompt answer, unfortunately it has not helped the problem.  I've attached a screen shot to help explain the problem.  I double click the tiny window and nothing happens.  I tried your suggestions, but nothing happens.  I tried opening my 2016 Turbo Tax program and it works fine.  Hope you can help.

Looks like your window is minimized too much. Can you double-click the title bar of the tiny window you mentioned. It should maximize the window. Alternatively, you can press and hold the Windows key and then press the up arrow on your keyboard.

Another thing you can try is to log out of your account in Windows. Then log back in using another account. Most computers have an administrator account. Once you log in from another account, open TurboTax and see if the problem is solved. If this does not help, let us know.
