Can I file a tax return for the years prior to receiving a SIN?

I'm trying to file my boyfriend's taxes. He came from Saudi Arabia in 2009 and has never files his taxes. He was a student from 2009-2016 and has tuition and education credits. In 2016 he started work and got his SIN number. I want to file his taxes for 2016-2018, but I am wondering if there is a way I can also file from 2009-2016 even though he did not have a SIN. I want to be able to use his education/tuition credits from those years.

You would have to contact the CRA and see if they can issue a temporary SIN for those years. https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647704
