Does my daughter have to complete a return? She worked last summer and earned under 4K she is under 18.

My daughter turns 18 this May. Since taxes are always a year behind am I required to claim the amount for an eligible dependent on my 2017 return or do I leave this credit out ?

2 options:

  • Assuming she lives with you, you can claim her as a dependant and enter in her income in the dependant section of the return. Her income for tax purposes as a dependant will count as income on your return.
  • Or she can file her own tax return.
