Does the fact that Turbo Tax software is saying I made past service contributions for 1989 and earlier while not a contributor, mean I actually did? How would I confirm?

This “contribution” amount would likely be shown on you T4A slip. You can check your physical slip, or the digital copy in the CRA’s My Account to see if you have an amount in Box 162.

 

If you don’t have anything in Box 162, then double check the entries on you T4A in TurboTax. You can do this by clicking the “Find” button (magnifying glass) and searching for “t4a”. Then select “T4A - Pension, Retirement, Annuity, and Other Income” from the list and click on the “Go” button. Scroll down to Box 162 (in the Box 032: RPP Contributions section) and make sure Box 162 and the other boxes in that area have the correct amounts.
