Filing Common-Law for 2022 Personal Tax Return - Actual Date of Becoming Common-Law or When the Change Was Made on CRA My Account?

Hello,

If I started living with my partner on Dec 15, 2021 and technically became common-law on Dec 15, 2022 but changed my marital status on CRA My Account on Jan 13, 2023, do I file the 2022 personal tax returns as common-law? Or would I be filing as a single because I made the change on CRA website on Jan 13, 2023? Or is it still common-law as at Dec 31, 2022 because the effective date that I actually lived with my partner for 12 months is Dec 15, 2022?

Thank you.

It would be best in your situation to contact the CRA so that they can advise you as your dates differ- CRA phone number- 1-800-959-8281
