Help! My employer started taking parking off our pay in 2014. We are forced to park in the lot. As there is no other parking in the area. (NO PARKING ALOUD in a 100km RADIUS) there is no transit available either. I've worked there for 8 years and this is the first time. They told us we would be able to write it as a parking expense. Now I'm finding out you can't. I'm very confused as to why not. If i had the option of getting a ride or taking transit i would. I've talked to CRA one person said yes the next said no. I've read on the site that I can in most cases. Then i read no. It is in my deductions. I don't get reimbursed for it at all. So wouldn't I be able to claim a portion or all ??
You cannot claim parking at your employer's place of business as this is regarded as personal in nature.. For more info please see http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns206-236/229/slry/prkng-eng.htm...
