How do I claim for the cost to expenses I paid to file last year's return?

I paid almost $200 last year to a tax company for both myself and my husband. How do I claim for this? Where do I enter the information?

Usually the cost to prepare an individual's tax return is not a tax deduction. The cost of income tax preparation is only deductible in a few situations:

  • As a business expense for business owners (form T2125 - under Legal, accounting, and other professional fees),
  • As a rental expense for rental property owners (form T776 - under Legal, accounting, and other professional fees),
  • or under other special circumstances listed in this bulletin http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tp/it99r5-consolid/it99r5-consolid-e.html
