I was off work for 4 months, and WorkSafe paid my employer who then refilled my sick bank. Now TurboTax is claiming my T5007 as income, but it's not.

Basically I'm being taxed twice on that, because it's already included in the T4 from my employer, and is making it look like I made more money that I actually did.

Does your T4 have an amount in Box 77? Many employers who 'top up' or 'refill sick banks' are required to put the WorkSafe portion in Box 77 of the T4. If that box is empty, the software doesn't know the T4 income and the T5007 income are the same money.

  • Look at your T4 slip from your employer. If your employer correctly processed the reimbursement, they should have included the reimbursed amount in Box 77 (Other Information).
  • If there is an amount in Box 77, enter it in TurboTax. This acts as a further adjustment to ensure the wages paid while you were off (and later reimbursed) are not taxed, as it allows a deduction for "other employment expenses."
  • If Box 77 is blank: Contact your employer to confirm if they deducted the WCB award from your taxable income on the T4 or if you need an amended T4
