Netfile not accepting my return due to Capital gains form?

I don't have any capital gains to report yet I am getting a message that capital gains forms are not completed and not yet available. My return is being refused by netfile because it says my return is incomplete. Help!

I'm in the same boat, very frustrated by the fact that I paid to file and then was denied. A notice of the expected date we could file would be nice!

I suspect that this is the schedule 3 question that is triggered by answering a warning question.  If you followed that warning and answered "no" to the question about selling a home, it takes it as "yes" and triggers the capital gains issue. Go back to schedule 3 and delete any response and then you can refile.

Thank you. I went back and checked schedule 3. I hadn't open that schedule but the No had been checked. As soon as I blanked both the yes and no, the problem was solved.

Thank you how did you find that? I even entered a whole new return for him and it still didn’t take but I got mine filed 🤷‍♀️

I did the same thing. It was a really stupid CRA warning with no right answer.

To Turbotax 2024 (web-based) users. I have completed my 2024 return, paid for Turbotax and am trying to access a PDF of the T1 and Schedules. Because I have capital gains to claim, Turbotax is indicating CRA is not yet (March 9th) accepting e-filings that include capital gains (apparently related to the Capital Gains Inclusion Rate change that was subsequently withdrawn). This is requiring some re-tooling at both CRA and Turbotax. HOWEVER, over the past week I have spoken with 6 different Turbotax representatives who cannot explain why I cannot generate the T1 and Schedules once the fee has been paid. The last rep I spoke with said he had consulted with 4 different specialists who couldn't help. He ended up throwing the software engineers at Turbotax under the bus. Meanwhile, here I sit with completed returns, paid fees and no access to my T1. Help?!

Same issue with me. Sold a principle residence and turbotax does not allow me to transmit the files. Many of you refer to an adjustment to schedule 3. How do you even go back to Schedule 3? I see no such schedule.

Help?!?

Hi… I feel your pain! Regarding Schedule 3 - that relates to Capital Gains, the schedule is not visible while working through the Turbotax software algorithm. Rather, the software prompts and our responses should populate the CRA T1 and associated schedules. We should be able to download and review prior to Netfiling with CRA after we’ve paid. Currently, this is not possible.

Same problem. I have capital gains from the sale of a property. I can't save a pdf, or submit my return. A pop up has a message about forms not finalized. After many loops around Turbotax's convoluted printing steps, another message came up about the Schedule 3 (that I can't find again) they were working hard on it and it should be fixed by late March. Yet, I can access the Schedule 3 on the CRA website. I bought the Turbotax Premier version. I paid for the program, can't file, Turbotax's explainations are lacking, and it seems I can just download the forms I need from CRA. If ithis isn't addressed soon, I may just use the CRA forms and mail in the return, and take the Turbotax back to the retailer who is known for its accommodating return policy. Very dissatisfied.

Would be nice for Turbo Tax Canada to reply. Waiting for an update until the end of March is not acceptable when the forms show the correct %.

What is really going on?

My issue is I don’t even capital gains I spent an hour on the phone with CRA last night and they confirmed we gave no carry forwards, no capital gains nothing that should be stopping our return and it’s on Turbotax to fund the issue and I’m still waiting for a call back from a manager to explain to me why their tech department can’t figure out what

glitch is on our return 🤬🤬🤬

Same here, I usually file at this time and now have to wait for schedule 3 to be updated!  Is it really CRA end or Turbotax?

What number did you contact them at? After much searching I found [phone number removed]. Is that the number to call for Canadian help?

Well, that's not helpful. Turbotax removed the phone number I put in my previous post.

The simplest way to connect by phone is to click on the “Chat” icon. AI will respond. Advance through the questions until it offers the option “Receive a phone call from an expert”. Typically, they’ll call within 5 minutes.

I spoke with Turbotax. The lady said the issue is with the CRA's Netfile programming and not with Turbotax. They are hoping it is resolved by the end of March. She is hearing about the issue multiple times a day. When I told her I was able to download a fillable Schedule 3 from CRA without any warnings and I'm considering printing off all the forms and mailing my return, she reminded me processing times are longer for mailed returns than Netfiled returns, which I do agree with. So, I will wait until the end of March. The thing that is puzzling me is not being able to save my return as a pdf. As I have multiple sources of revenue, I create different versions of my return to determine the tax attributable to the different revenues for tax planning purposes. In previous years I have been able to save as pdf those different versions even though they are not filed. So I'm not sure the issue is entirely with CRA's Netfile programming. At this point it's wait and see.

I have had the same issue this year. I tried to file last weekend and paid in full, only to get the message indicating I will receive an email when the form is ready. I tried connecting with a Specialist tonight (the chat bot said 20 minute wait) but that was 2 hours ago. I am not pleased with Turbotax.

I was able to get the T1 after paying by going back through the review pages.  One of them will suddenly have a link to the T1.  Still can't file right now though due to capital gains.  Little annoying.

I am so frustrated!!! Is there is no way to go back and fix whatever the issue is?  It sounds like TurboTax might be glitching and triggering some peoples returns to report capital gains or losses.  When I go to the detailed view of the online review we (my partner and I do taxes together) do not have any capital gains or losses however I did have a tiny amount of interest (under $200) from a savings account that appears on a T5.  Otherwise I can not understand why we aren't allowed to netfile?  So we are just supposed to wait for a message from TurboTax that we can file?  What if TurboTax is reporting something wrong - I wouldn't want to file if the CRA thinks either my partner or I sold property or have some captial gains or losses that we don't have.  How can I get help with this without paying for the expert online help thing - hardly seems fair.

my husband, and I do not have capital gains to report, and cannot file.  I’ve read through many peoples comments and tried looking to see if I had answered yes to selling a property, and I did not, does anyone have any other advice?  or is this specifically a TurboTax problem, where maybe I need to cancel payment and go to a different company?

TIA for any help

I was able to print to pdf and file my return today. When I opened Turbotax, there were updates available which I installed. Then the program worked.

Prior to doing that, this morning, I spoke with a professional accountant who I've known for a few years. She said other tax preparation programs have had to update their programming because of the changes to the federal government's capital gains inclusion rate. But the problem with being unable to file is because of the tax preparation program, it is not on the government's end. So what we have been told by Turbotax is not the full story. Yes the capital gains inclusion rate changed, but Turbotax's programming changes to reflect the government's capital gains changes was the reason we've been unable to file.

I'll likely not use Turbotax again. The communication has been terrible. It would be a different matter if Turbotax had proactively issued a communication to us registered users explaining what the issue was and what was being done to address it. Each year, there seems to be more and more prompts to use expert service and audit defence, essentially upselling efforts. As I was completing my return today, there were two prompts to write reviews. I declined. It's funny how I get flooded with emails on badges I've earned from reading posts, and posting. So that aspect of Turbotax's programming is working. Yet they can't give us an update on the service we purchased their program for.
