QC resident, work in ON, T4 but no R1. Where do I declare taxable benefits?

I live in Quebec and work in Ontario. I received a T4 from my employer but no R1. I completed the T4 info on turbotax and it looks like it added an R1. So far so good.

But I am also on a group health insurance plan with work which I understand is taxable in QC, although not by CRA. Do I just add this to the R1 myself, even though I didn't receive an R1? I think it must go in box J?

Thanks

  • Please follow the instructions below to assist you in entering your T4 with no Releve 1.
What do I do if I have a T4 slip with no matching RL-1 slip or an RL-1 slip with no matching T4? https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/3217566
  • As a Quebec resident, in the Provincial tab, you will be able to enter your group health insurance amounts as well.

If this does not resolve your issue, please contact our support team, as they will be able to view your screen, if the agent is unable to resolve your issue, please request to have your situation "escalated" to a higher level.

Answer the questions, so it guides you towards the right team.  Apply the drop downs and you will get a phone number specified to your question (ie - support, care):

Hi TurboTaxLise

Thanks for your advice. The first bit is okay, I saw this faq on having t4 but no r1 and followed the advice.
But I'm still having difficulty on the second point as I cannot see anywhere in the provincial tab to add this group health insurance amount. The only extra income I can add is to do with capital gains/losses.
I state that I have this plan with respect to the 'Premium Payable under the Québec Prescription Drug Insurance Plan' but there is nowhere else to indicate that I have this, and no where at all to add an amount.

Any further advice would be gratefully recieved, thanks.

Thanks for asking to clarify this, under the Provincial tab - as a QC resident, you should be able to see a drop down "Premium Payable under the Québec Prescription Drug Insurance Plan"  and click, "this covers my situation"......Are you sure you are eligible? On that particular page did you read the part just below the writing to see if you are eligible, because if you are, the screen comes up to enter in your box #.  Let me know.....

Thanks for your help on this.

On the 'Premium Payable under the Québec Prescription Drug Insurance Plan' page I choose box 14 which indicates I am covered by my work group insurance plan, then box 16 for my spouse as they are also covered by my plan.

There is no option to enter the value of the benefits. This just seems to be to indicate whether or not we must pay the premium for the public plan, which we don't as we are covered a private plan.

There is no option to enter an amount for these benefits as a taxable income.
