There could be several reasons why the Income Summary page is not matching with the total of the T4 forms entered. Here are a few possibilities:
Incorrect data entry: One possible reason is that there might have been an error in entering the information from one or more T4 forms. For example, if an amount was accidentally entered twice or omitted altogether, it could result in a discrepancy between the Income Summary page and the total of the T4 forms.
Other sources of income: The Income Summary page on TurboTax Canada includes not just income from T4 forms but also other sources of income such as self-employment income, investment income, and rental income. If you have income from any of these sources, it could explain the difference between the Income Summary page and the T4 forms.
Deductions and credits: The Income Summary page also takes into account deductions and credits that you are eligible for, such as RRSP contributions, tuition fees, and medical expenses. If you have claimed any of these deductions or credits, it could result in a difference between the Income Summary page and the T4 forms.
Taxable benefits: Some taxable benefits, such as employment insurance benefits or employer-paid health and dental benefits, may not be included on T4 forms but are still considered taxable income. If you received any taxable benefits that are not reflected on the T4 forms, it could explain the difference between the Income Summary page and the T4 forms.
To pinpoint the reason for the discrepancy between the Income Summary page and the T4 forms, you may want to review the information you have entered in TurboTax and compare it with the information on your T4 forms and other tax documents. If you are still unable to identify the reason for the discrepancy, you can contact TurboTax customer support telephone experts for help as they can view your screen.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Thanks for the info!
Turns out that the added income was due to the GST associated with professional/union fees. As soon as I selected "GST exempt" that amount was corrected.
I'm still not sure why there isn't a quick way to find out what section(s) contribute to each of the numbers. Like ability to actually click into the row on the income summary and have it show the computation right there. Maybe one day...
