This FAQ lists some possible reasons why TurboTax is telling you that you are self-employed: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/community/navigating-turbotax/help/why-is-turbotax-telling-me-i-m-self-employed/00/873741
I'm having this problem as well. I'm getting an error saying:
Do you have any other slips? Like a T4 slip with box 81, 82 or 83, or a T4A slip with box 20, 48 or box 28? If yes, CRA will consider you to be self-employed- all you would need to do in this case would be to enter your name as business name and your home address as business address and continue. Then you will be able to file your return.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
i had same problem last year and couldn't file went through quite a rigmarole to get it fixed same problem this year have to print and mail i guess . Or find a new tax prep service .GRRRRRRR
@dendeb If you've entered an amount from any of the boxes on the slips listed here, you have what the CRA considers to be self-employment or business income:
If you have an amount in any of these boxes, TurboTax will ask additional questions to report the income as self-employment/business income. You only need to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be your own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).
