Why can't I apply my trillium payment to my balance owing

I will receive more from Trillium then I owe why can't have my trillium payments applied to my balance owing

Trillium is an Ontario government benefit for taxpayers of modest means. It is nothing to do with your Federal or Provincial tax accounts. Your Net Income is used to determine eligibility for Trillium. That's all.

You could use the Trillium benefit payments to lay down your tax due, but you'd be better to pay it off sooner than later.
