If you have entered an amount from a T4A slip - Box 20 0r 48, you will need to enter some basic information on the T2125 - Statement of Business Activities in order to successfully NetFile.

Look for you 2022 Industry code here: https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825

This isn't helpful. The system has an industry code bug

You can search for your Industry code on this Stats Canada webpage: https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825

The codes are updated every few years and were most recently updated in 2022. So, if your code is not working, it may have changed.

The code hasn't changed, there's clearly a bug in TT software.

Any suggestions how to overcome this? Will I be able to file my IT with this error and not be flagged by CRA if I proceed with filing?

I am receiving the same error, tried a number of different industry codes that are valid, it changes the code in the correct field but the error continues to come up.  My original code was 454110 and tried to change it to 414100

Although this post is from 2019 it will be an issue in 2023 for anyone with internet businesses.  The problem is TT does not list any codes for Non-Store business ( i.e internet business) If you change the code to something other than internet related it works.  This is definitely an error in the TT software.  I suppose the options are either change it to an incorrect code or file by mail. Seems like a pretty big oversite by intuit.  Guess I'll wait a few days and hope they update something before the 15th.

The Industry codes have been revised for 2022. You would need to look here for the new codes: https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825

If you are a Direct Sellers, then Codes 454300 & 454390 will no longer work. Direct Sellers must now choose codes based on what they are selling.

@Hobbylinc This is happening because the industry codes were revised in 2022, and unlike previous years, they have made some changes which affect a lot of people. What is the industry that you are in? If you sell products or services on the internet, you would have to go based on what you sell. An ISP might use 517310 - Wired and wireless telecommunications carriers (except satellite), while a streaming service might use 516212 - Media streaming distribution services.

I am getting this error when submitting  the file - You have entered an invalid industry code

I have double, triple checked this industrial code for my business - 454110. It hasn't been changes for the years. Can you please double check it as it is blocking me filing the tax now.

If netfiling a prior year return, e.g. 2020, is the old (2017 v.3) or new (2022 v.1) industry code used @TurboTaxSusan?

I also had trouble filing my business return using CRA's industry codes. I followed the link to Stats Canada, looked up the same category and got a different code which did work and I was able to Netfile.

@JamesLai Again, for 2022, you have to go based on what you sell.

@ar97 You should still be able to use the old codes for previous years.

If you are still not able to resolve this issue, please contact our phone support team at 1-888-829-8608.

@TurboTaxSusan I am also having this issue with TT blocking the Netfile stating that an invalid industry code has been entered.  I have tried multiple codes.  reviewed the codes on the StatsCan and Canada.ca websites.  None work for selling of home goods.  Please assist.

I am filing a Canadian 2022 tax return that is mostly a personal tax return but has some self employed business activities.  I have tried a whole bunch of industry codes and keep getting an error message to fix it when I try to Netfile.  I think there is a Turbotax problem or bug here.

And this is the first year I am filing this return with self employed income.

@GKFinancial it definitely appears to be a TurboTax bug.  This is the 4th year that my wife has had income from her side-hustle in addition to her employment income and we've had no issues claiming it via TurboTax.  This year, the industry code we previously used didn't work, so after finding this thread I tried several others, all to no avail.  Intuit needs to fix this.

It says my industry code: 519130 is wrong.

And I cant NETFILE

It's not just internet related. I'm in publishing. I'm using a valid code and can't netfile because of this error.

How about updating the Turbo Tax Help on this topic so that the link to the new codes is working?

The Stats can website is down at the moment.

I had the same issue, but looking after the code in the 2022 NAICS version  https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825

I relized that "my code" changed. I put the new code and all worked fine.

I am following the discussion regarding the Industry code used on the T2125 form.  I have tried 447110,  447190  and get and error message from Turbo Tax.  F1 brings me to the link with CRA NACIS and both these numbers are listed.  A telephone call to Turbo Tax and agent used code 445120 which worked but informed me that I should check with CRA before Netfiling to see if they will accept the code.   On the CRA website it states that if filing online then use the codes provided by the tax software.    Going around in circles...can't Netfile,  can't reach CRA to verify......Sounds like this a TurboTax problem.

As long as the code is close to what your work is, it will be accepted.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
