How do I claim my driver's ed. $575.00 on this year's return? It only allows a transfer or a carry forward to a future year. Can I claim it this year and get a refund?

You can only claim tuition if you have a T2202A, TL11 or a receipt that shows that the tuition is “eligible”. Generally, regular driver training usually doesn’t qualify as eligible tuition. However, you may want to check with your car insurance company as they may offer a discount because you have taken the training.

If you do have eligible tuition, it’s a non-refundable credit, so it can only be used to reduce you taxes owing. You won’t get any of the credit if you don’t owe anything, or are already getting a refund.

Thanks for this answer.  I do have a T2202A, but now I see this can only be used to reduce the amount of taxes I owe, if any.  It can be transferred to my parent though, correct?
