Error message comes back even I entered correctly. Is this computer bug?
>The sum of box 52 and box 53 (T3) must equal the total capital gain or loss in box 21 of your T3 slip. Please review your imported data.<
I entered same number made made sure 52 + 53 = 21, still error message appears.
Can I leave as is, then can I NETFILE without problem?
There are two box 52s & two box 53s on the 2024 T3. One set is for before June 25, 2025, and one set is for after June 25, 2025. The sum of Total Capital Gains box 52 for before June 2024 and Total Capital Gains box 53 for after June 2024 have to equal to what is in box 21. And your Foreign Capital Gains can't be more than your Total Gains.
When you enter your Foreign Capital Gains, you have to make sure it goes in the box that matches the period - before or after June 25. If you put a Total Capital Gains amount in box 52 (before June 2024) but then put Foreign Capital Gains in Box 53 (after June 2024), you'll get an error because your Foreign Capital Gains for that period is higher than your Total Capital Gains for that period.
Thank you for replying.
21 Total capital gain 1,557.80
52 Foreign Capital gains before June 25, 2024 817.22
52 Total Capital gains before June 25, 2024 817.22
53 Foreign Capital gains after June 24, 2024 740.58
53 Total Capital gains after June 24, 2024 740.58
Still get errors.
Do you find anything wrong?
When I use your numbers, it works for me. I only get an error about the source country because I haven't put one in.
Please clear your browser cache (or use a different browser) and try again. You can also try deleting the T3 and then re-entering it.
If you are still not able to resolve this issue, please contact our phone support team at 1-888-829-8608 as they will be better able to assist you. They can look at the return with you to see what's going on.
During tax season (from CRA NETFILE opening (mid-February) to the regular filing deadline (April 30), we're available 7 days a week during these hours:
During the rest of the year (May 1 to mid-February), we're available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM ET for English and French support.
Have only 1 Box 52 and 53 on T3. Have tried to enter same numbers for each but still get error message
I clear the cache, start a new return, still get same error message when in reviewing step.
If I ignore this error message, will it be a problem when NETFILE?
I did same & same result. Was also wondering about Netfile. Have call w them tomorrow
I talked to technical support lady for more than 2 hours over cobrowse. Still we didn't solve the problem. Looks like very complicated issues. I am doing my husband's return, entered same kind of amount box 52,53, 21 with no problem.
I asked if I can NETFILE with this error message, she said yes, but not sure about consequences. She will get back to me by tomorrow.
Interesting. Guy I talked to said I couldn't NETFILE with error. He was online with their tech support & they indicated that it's a software issue regarding the government's reversal on the Capital Gains tax increase they announced last year. If you remember, they just announced a delay in its implementation recently & Turbo Tax hasn't updated the software yet. Makes sense to me as the initial increase came into effect right around the end of June last year. Hence the 2 dates (before & after June 24 & 25). My guy said they will fix & send notice out.
Your guy and my lady have different ideas. I would like to go with your guy. Makes more sense.
I don't know why my husband's is OK but not mine. We have similar numbers in T3. So not everybody gets this glitch.
I created new account and started new fresh return, came out with same error.
Always something goes wrong in beginning of tax season.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
NP. Never thought of trying a new return. I'll be patient & wait it out.
Thanks for the info & good luck
I have the same problem with my T3s.
Just called Turbotax and it's a known issue. They say it should be fixed within a week or so.
@christianedesch if it is related to Capital gains or loss: Schedule 3 is still locked by CRA and not finalized by CRA yet. Please refer to this link Why does TurboTax say my forms are locked or haven't been finalized?
We do not have any ETA on this yet but as soon a these forms gets finalize we will be updating them in TurboTax for an accurate calculations.
We appreciate your patience.
Have you got an answer yet. I am getting the same error for one of my T3 slips.
Supposed to be this week but CRA says by month end on their end. No idea what TurboTax has to do.
CRA keeps updating the date. I heard that it was supposed to be March 15; now the website says a few weeks. At least they have extended the date to file without penalty (if you have Capital gains) to June 2, so we have a little more time.
Our teams are working hard at getting the forms all unlocked—we appreciate your patience, and we will update you as soon as it has been resolved.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
I am still have this issue. Can I submit without fix it? this is turbotax issue or cra issue.
The sum of box 52 and box 53 must equal the total capital gain or loss in box 21 of your T3 slip. Please review your imported data.
Got it from watermans4
What I eventually did was enter the same amount in box 52 to agree with the amount in box 21. I deleted the amount in box 53. Hey presto, the error message disappeared. Now, I am a happy puppy and hope this works for you. Cheers, Michael
Only 1 entry in Box 52 to = Box 21 on left side so. Leave all other Box 52 & 53s empty. Done & submitted.
I don't get it. Schedule 3 is still locked by CRA and not finalized by CRA yet. (Or already fixed?)
Even you could submit and gone through, there might be an error. Then you have to pay again to refile.
I saw the comment that rounding numbers works.
I suggested rounding dismals a few weeks before, Turbotax moderator said not to do it.
Has the situation changed since then?
I would like to know if I should wait or jump to someone's solution.
Don’t know if fixes or not by CRA. I just tried what I mentioned to you & error message disappeared. CRA accepted. I don’t think we would have to resubmit & pay again. They may want to see the T3 to confirm numbers but can just submit it to CRA directly. Too late for me now. Got my submission confirmation from CRA so we’ll see
