There is a carry forward amount on my use-of-home expenses, but my income is not high enough to use this year. Can it be transferred to my husband?

We both have home offices, but he has higher income. Can I transfer the carry forward to him?

No, you cannot transfer a "use-of-home" carry-forward amount to your spouse.

Since you both have home offices, you can optimize how you handle current-year expenses. If you haven't finalized your current return yet, here is how you can legally maximize your household's deduction:

You and your husband can decide how to split shared expenses like utilities, rent, or home internet. As long as you don't claim more than 100% of the total bill between the two of you, you can choose to have him claim a larger share of the current year’s bills (provided his home office square footage justifies it).

If you have separate offices, you each calculate your deduction based on the size of your specific workspace. If he has a larger office or uses a shared space more frequently for work, he may naturally be entitled to a higher portion of the household expenses.

Hope this helps!
