Can I claim rent paid for half the year and than property tax I paid for the second half of the year after purchasing first home? If not, which should I claim?

Yes you can claim both rent and property tax paid during the year. If you live in Manitoba review your purchase documents (Statement of Adjustments) and determine how much, if any, of the Homeowners Tax Assistance Advance you received.
