Generally speaking, you can not claim a tax credit for the amount you paid in rent. There are, however, a few exceptions to this rule.
For example, if you live in the province of Ontario and you are eligible for Ontario Trillium Benefit, you will be able to claim the rent you paid during the year on your return.

Click on Continue and answer Yes to the question, “Did any of these apply to you and you want to apply for the OEPTC?” Click on Continue and you will be prompted to enter the details of your rent paid.
