Can my 89-year old father claim for the rent he pays for his seniors lodge residence? He moved from his personal residence into a seniors lodge in November 2017.

He is an Alberta citizen.  Due to the fact that he could no longer live on his own, he was forced to move into a senior citizens lodge in November of 2017.

It sounds like your father's monthly fees could be considered attendant care (medical expense) but it depends on the type of seniors' residence he's moved to.

If your father is disabled (and has a valid disability tax certificate on file with CRA or has a signed doctor's not indicating his infirmity)and the facility provides attendant care (not just a "retirement community"), the monthly fees paid may qualify as medical expenses.
